MONSTERS’ PARTY [D-DAY]

MONSTERS’ HANDCRAFTS

First, while waiting for everybody to come we proposed to the children some handcrafts activities. They’re all so shy at the beginning… Have them work with their hands on a funny little project while sitting altogether at the same table works well as an ice-breaker. After a little while you’ll see them interact with each other, asking the neighbor for help or showing off their masterpiece.

Here’re what you need to create the monster pencil (2) and the puffy monster(3): polystyrene balls, glue, silk paper, plastic eyes (all sizes), pencils, white cardboard, scissors, cotton balls, chenille stems and rubber paper (various colors)

monster pencil: remove the eraser at the top of the pencil and glue the stem’s extremity in it (5). Twist the pipe around the pencil all the way down (6). Stick a cotton ball on the top to hide the hole and add funny details.

puffy monster : glue the silk paper around the polystyrene balls, cut the white cardboard to make the teeth, stick the eyes . Use chenille stems and cotton balls to add antennas and other funny details.

MONSTERS’ BAGS

We introduced the next activity by telling the kids that in the course of the party they would be winning some goodies… So what they needed now was a booty bag!

You need: glue, scissors, paper shoppers, eyes & mouths printouts (1). All children had a lot of fun creating faces on their booty bags (2-3).

MONSTERS’ BADGES

Next, came the ID badge: we told the kids to pick the badge with their favorite monster, color it and write their name. Then we made them notice that the monsters on their badges were all eyeless! And you know why? Because from now we’ll play games, at the end of each game you’ll get points. And for each point you’ll get an eye for your monster!!!

You’ll need: color pencils, colored card boards, monsters’ drawings printouts, ribbon.

GREENY and GREEDY

By now everybody was well at ease and ready to go with the first game. Here’s the story we told them: all monsters, good and mean, love candies. But Greedy, the mean monster (3) took the candies from Greeny, the good monster (1) and wants to eat them all! Help Greeny get back his candies!

ONE

Children look! Greedy has candies in his mouth! Now take turns and be brave: put your tiny hand in Greedy’s mouth (4), catch a candy and place it in the Greeny’s mouth (5)!

TWO

Bravo! Now we have to find the rest of the candies… Hey look! Greedy hid the candies in a well (1-2), we need fishing poles to get them back (3)!

To prepare this game we just fixed a paper clip on the candy (4) and a magnet at the end of the rope so it would attract the paperclip when close (5-6). The magnet is wrapped in a cloth and glued at the edge of the rope (7).

THREE

Look now, Greedy has made a big soup with green’s candies. And to make sure you don’t take them back he is transforming all children in little monsters without hands (1-2). So now you’ll have to take the candies out of the soup with your mouth (3)!

MONSTERS’ BINGO

For the bingo we hung all sort of funny monsters on the window (2) and let children choose a card (3-4).

Then children would take turns and throw a sponge ball (5) to the window to try to catch one of the hanging monsters. Once a monster was caught kids had to verify whether that monster was on their card: if so they would put a candy on it. The first who finishes the card wins!

MONSTER’S SURPRISE

The surprise board is a funny way to distribute party favors to the children. We got the idea from another mom’s blog (here).

Children took turns to plunge their hand in the monsters mouth and extract their gifts (2-3-4). At the end the monsters looked even funnier!
